The Hunnies Cheerleaders had an amazing morning on November 30th volunteering with our Fayetteville Marksmen at Operation Toy Drop!
Thousands of paratroopers, jumpmasters from 13 foreign nations, air crews from across the country and hundreds of supporting soldiers are at Fort Bragg this week to honor the memory of a soldier, train, and give back to the community.
The annual Randy Oler Memorial Operation Toy Drop is a Fort Bragg tradition hosted by the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command that has collected more than 100,000 toys for children in the past two decades.
Last year, more than 4,500 toys were donated for children in need throughout the region, and almost 4,000 soldiers participated in Operation Toy Drop.
The first Operation Toy Drop was organized in 1998 by Staff Sgt. Randy Oler, a soldier with the command who wanted a way to give back to the community during training.
Oler suffered a fatal heart attack during a jump on April 20, 2004.
“Some of his friends in the Army community decided to honor his legacy, and it has built up every year after that,” said Sgt. 1st Class Stephen Crofoot, a spokesman for the operations command.
The event, which has been touted in the past as the world’s largest combined multinational airborne operation, also provides soldiers training and the chance to earn coveted foreign jump wings.
